In order to prevent false and misleading health claims on the packages of food, beverages and supplements the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) asked the industry several years ago to suggest omega-3 related health claims and to show sufficient scientific evidence that the proposed health claims indeed were correct. A very large number of proposals with supporting scientific evidence was handed in to EFSA. It took the authority many years to study all this material and so far only few health claims were approved by the authority.
The EFSA approved omega-3 health claims give the consumer the security and ease-of-mind he is not mislead by any false claims on the product package or any other marketing material.
